Overwhelmed by Emotion

This powerful message challenges us to examine whether we are living by faith or being controlled by the emotions of the moment. Drawing from Matthew 14 and the account of Peter walking on water, we are confronted with a penetrating question: Why do we doubt? The central insight reveals that God always speaks to us through the Spirit, while the enemy attempts to reach us through our emotions. When Peter stepped out of the boat, he experienced the miraculous, but the moment his emotions overwhelmed his faith, he began to sink. How often do we find ourselves in the same position, starting strong in faith but allowing fear, doubt, and emotional reactions to derail what God wants to accomplish in our lives? The message traces this pattern through the disciples' journey, from the feeding of the four thousand to the crucifixion and resurrection. Even after witnessing countless miracles, the disciples struggled to move beyond emotional responses to genuine faith. When Jesus was arrested, their fear scattered them. When the women reported the empty tomb, doubt kept them from believing. Yet the resurrection stands as the ultimate answer to every doubt and fear. Jesus is alive, not hanging on a cross but seated at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us. The call is clear: we must choose to walk by faith, not by sight, allowing God's Word to build substance in our hearts rather than being tossed about by the emotional waves of circumstance.
