Slavery To Slavery

What does it truly mean to be free? This message challenges us to reconsider our understanding of freedom through the lens of Romans 6:18: 'having been set free from sin, you become slaves of righteousness.' Using the allegory of Hagar and Sarah from Galatians 4, we're invited to see beyond the surface story to understand two covenants—one of law that leads to bondage, and one of grace that leads to true freedom. The law, given at Mount Sinai, revealed our sin but couldn't free us from it. It was merely a tutor pointing us toward Christ. The profound paradox presented here is that we move from one form of slavery to another—but the difference is everything. Under sin, we were owned by death itself, trapped in patterns that promised pleasure but delivered destruction. Through Christ's blood, we've been purchased at an incredible price and transferred to a new Master. This isn't the oppressive slavery of sin, but a loving bond with our Creator who first loved us. We're challenged to examine whether we're truly living as bond-servants of righteousness, or if we're still clinging to the illusion that we can serve God on our own terms, only when convenient. The call is clear: we are no longer our own, and our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. This message invites us to embrace our identity as those who've been bought with a price, living not for ourselves but for the glory of the One who freed us.
